“I like their material choices and the way they work together–dark cabinets, white countertops, and a backsplash that picks up both those colors.”

“I like that they used a bridge with crown molding across the top of the cabinets and above the hood. Love the under-cabinet lighting.”

“The hood is sized correctly, 36″ for a 30″ range!”

“I like the way the living edge wooden counter sits on top of the island creating interest.”  – Judges’ Reviews

Design Description:

The original design of this space was an uninteresting, basic spec home kitchen. It was completely dwarfed by the high ceilings and crowded layout. The homeowner enjoys cooking almost every night and dreamed of a kitchen that had room for multiple cooks, while allowing others to be close by.

The new kitchen incorporated a Bertazzoni gas range and hood which was purposely selected for best performance and to be the center of attention. The windows were relocated so that the focal point would be directed to the Bertazzoni range with upper cabinets flanking the hood.

The new island, with a prep sink, allowed flexible zones to work from all sides with comfortable walkways. Cantilevering a wood tabletop off the island also helped with traffic and allowed for convenient seating.

We decided to use warm, natural materials that are easy to maintain. The neutral quartz countertops subtly support the overall design and contrast with the cabinetry and multi-coloured glass backsplash. As well, the two-toned cherry cabinetry was selected so that it adds visual interest while blending perfectly with the walnut tabletop.
